The pot simmers, releasing a nutty aroma as dalia roasts gently. A child leans against the counter, curious eyes watching.
“Daadi, hum roz dalia kyun khate hain? Isn’t it too plain?” The grandmother stirs with care.               Beta, this plain bowl carries quiet treasures. You see, dalia isn’t just food—it’s balance. She explains how dalia, made from gently broken wheat, holds complex carbohydrates. Unlike foods that vanish quickly, it gives steady energy, helping the body stay fueled longer. “That’s why farmers ate it before working in the sun, and why students could study for hours after a bowl.” “Superhero jaisa?” the child asks.
Bilkul, Daadi laughs, “ek aisa superhero jo shor nahi machata.” She sprinkles in jaggery. “Aur dekho, it also carries dietary fiber. This keeps digestion smooth and meals filling. When you feel fuller for longer, you don’t run behind every snack.” The child nods, imagining a shield protecting from hunger pangs. She adds, almost whispering, “Inside dalia hide little sparks—iron that supports daily vitality, magnesium that plays its role in balance, and B-vitamins that help the body use its own strength. No wonder travelers carried it; it gave them resilience without weighing them down.”
The child tastes a spoonful. It is warm, earthy, comforting. “It feels like home,” he murmurs. Science may list fiber, minerals, and vitamins. But families know dalia as trust in a bowl. For centuries it has meant nourishment without noise, energy without excess, and comfort that lingers long after the last bite. “Daadi,” the child says softly, “ab samajh aaya. Dalia isn’t plain—it’s power in disguise.” The grandmother smiles, as though she has handed over not just food, but wisdom carried through generations.
