Deshi Chakki Aata Recipes

  1. Aata Halwa (Kada Prasad Style)                               
  2. Ingredients:

    • 1 cup Deshi chakki aata
    • 1 cup ghee or butter
    • 1 cup sugar/jaggery
    • 2 cups water
    • Cardamom powder, dry fruits (optional)

    Method:

    1. Heat ghee in a kadai and roast aata on a low flame until dark golden and aromatic (15–20 mins).
    2. In another pan, boil water with sugar/jaggery until dissolved.
    3. Slowly add syrup to the roasted aata, stirring continuously.
    4. Cook until halwa leaves the sides of the pan.
    5. Garnish with nuts and serve warm.

    Tip: Always roast on a low flame to avoid burning.


  3. Thepla (Gujarati Methi Flatbread)
  4. Ingredients:

    • 1.5 cup Deshi chakki aata
    • ½ cup fresh chopped methi (fenugreek leaves)
    • 2 tbsp curd
    • 1 tsp ginger–green chili paste
    • ¼ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp red chili powder, salt to taste
    • 1 tbsp oil
    • Water (as needed)
    • Ghee/oil for roasting

    Method:

    1. Mix aata, methi, spices, curd, and oil. Add water to knead a soft dough.
    2. Rest for 15 mins.
    3. Divide and roll into thin discs.
    4. Roast on a hot tawa with ghee/oil until golden on both sides.

    Tip: Best enjoyed with curd and pickle.
